After producing fantastic three dimensional results in the Vision department with Pandoras Box from Coolux Systems, the sound department have got involved too with the demo of a brand new product from Sonic Emotion in Zurich.

The Sonic Wave I uses unique technology to combine a series of loudspeakers placed around the listening space into a single coherent wavefront allowing all listeners in the auditorium to receive perfect surround sound regardless of their position in the room. This differs from traditional surround sound systems because of their heavy reliance upon the listener being in the perfect position. The Sonic Wave I also differs from other 3D processors because it does not use the delay to produce the Hass Effect discovered in 1951.

One of the major flexibility points of the Sonic Wave I is that it directly integrates with Pandoras Box via the Media Manager allowing 3D sound content to be produced along with the video by adding sound clips to the timeline and predefining the position in the listening space with the X and Z controls. This allows us to create real time movements of sound effects to coincide with content that moves around the screen creating a truly cinematic effect.

Sonic Wave I also allows us to process live inputs as well as pre recorded samples. This means that a speaker can be tracked as they move around the stage and the image will follow them around the listening space. It will also allow us to input live feeds like skype or an outside broadcast and let them move around the listening space as they are placed in different locations on the screen.
