What is the switchover?

In the UK, the frequencies that radio mics operate within is being moved from the current place of TC channel 69 for TV channel 38. The switchover will happen on 01/07/2012 and will affect all radio mic users in the UK, and the systems on the old channel 69 will become illegal to operate after the switchover.

Why is it happening?

The switchover is happening to allow channels 61 – 69 to be freed in a move to harmonise the UK’s available space with the rest of Europe. This will allow the next generation of mobile devices to operate freely throughout Europe and the UK.

What have Universal Live done to combat this?

Universal Live have already made the switch and have changed over all of our main hire stock to the new UK channel 38 Flagship UHF-R system from Shure. Our hand held mics use the robust and versatile SM58 capsule, and our beltpacks come equipped as standard with the accurate and transparent sounding WL185 lapel mics. After road trials, research and discussion we decided to replace the venue stock with the very impressive third generation Evolution system from Sennheiser.
