CORPORATE & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Here at Universal Live, we wholeheartedly believe in doing things the right way. Whether that’s approaching every event in the most sustainable way possible, offering apprenticeships or supporting a local charity, we always try our best to think about our impact, reducing the negative and maximising the positive.
SUSTAINABILITY
We believe that sustainability is not only our duty to the environment, but also our corporate responsibility as an ethical business. Over the years, we have taken many meaningful steps to make our events and day-to-day operations as sustainable as possible. The addition of a role within our team dedicated to sustainability and innovation further demonstrates our commitment to the cause. Currently, we are reducing our impact in the following areas:
ENERGY
Our Head Office benefits from a large sloping roof, and we have invested heavily in solar panels to cover it. The installation is large enough to provide us with a large proportion of the power we need (weather permitting of course!), as well as feeding any surplus into the grid. This will of course reduce our own carbon footprint and also that of the local community.
Our Head Office also benefits from electric vehicle charge points, for use by staff and visitors with electric vehicles, and we intend to move our fleet of vans to be fully electric as and when each vehicle requires replacement.
In order to reduce our energy consumption at our offices as much as possible, every room is fitted with LED lightbulbs controlled by motion sensors.
SUPPLY CHAIN
We have removed all plastic products from our large-format print supply chain by working with suppliers commited to reducing their impact on the environment.
Our trucking supplier has been carefully chosen to ensure their commitment to reducing their environmental impact, and our Project Management & Support teams plan trucking carefully to reduce wastage and unnecessary journeys.
WASTE MANAGEMENT
Being in the live event industry, single-use carpet has been problematic environmentally in the past. We are now proud members of Carpet Recycling UK, and 100% of carpets we use on events are recycled – both before we use them and after!
We have invested heavily in equipment to reduce our business waste, and that of our sister company, Universal AV. We have a baler on-site that prepares cardboard and plastic for collection to be recycled, and a polystyrene compressor, which creates manageable blocks that are also collected for specialist recycling.
We are committed to having a paperless office and are constantly on the look-out for eco-friendly alternatives for every product we use, with the ultimate goal of eliminating our land-fill waste stream completely.
We are in the process of installing composting facilities to deal with all food and garden waste from Head Office, and plan to harvest rainwater from the roof now the solar installation is complete.
