The Live Team Plants a Hedgerow

On a cold and Damp December day, our Head Office team donned wellies, waterproofs and woolly hats to plant a hedgerow in the hills above Keighley.

Working with YORgreen CIC, our team of volunteers planted 800 native hedgerow plants, made up of Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Hazel, Field maple, Dog rose, and Dogwood.

Our 800 plants added to work from previous volunteers to complete the planting of 340m of native hedgerow. Over the next five years or so they will grow into a rich bio-diverse habitat and replace the bare wire fences currently in situ.

Why Plant a Hedgerow?

As a company we feel it is important to give back to the local community and make a positive contribution to the environment.

Hedgerows are important features of the landscape and are much more wildlife friendly than walls or fencing. Native hedgerows give shelter and food to a large variety of insects, birds and mammals, and also acts as wildlife corridors between areas of woodland. For species such as the rare hazel dormouse, which is put at great risk crossing an open field, they are vital.

Knowing we were doing such good for the environment and local wildlife kept a smile on our faces through the slightly wetter parts of the day, and having hot drinks and biscuits on hand was even better. A good day out in the fresh air was had by all!
